150 years ago, Franz Joseph I inaugurated the Vienna Ringstrasse. Just a few years earlier, in 1858, the project was the subject of an urban architectural competition, which included a total of 85 submissions, only 30 of which have been preserved today. The book examines the Ringstrasse competition in its broader historical and urban architectural context. It will prove an invaluable resource in European architectural history.
