Paul Ott is one of the most prominent modern European architectural photographers. His documentations of contemporary architecture have been published in numerous international books and journals. Yet Ott’s images always convey more than the pure physiognomy of the buildings he photographs. In free photo series, he explores the structures that influence how we perceive our surroundings at least as much as does the architects’ skill: anonymous agricultural buildings, skyscrapers and their fates, and the dramatic backdrops provided by mega-cities like Sao Paolo. This book offers a representative cross-section of Paul Ott’s photographic oeuvre and also makes readers aware that the shaping of our surroundings is to a great extent also based on “learned,” mediated images of and in architecture. Four essays examine his work from the perspectives of art theory and architecture.

Paul Ott (geboren 1965 in Kremsmünster)lebt seit 1989 als freischaffender Fotograf in Graz. Zahlreiche Architekturreportagen für internationale Fachzeitschriften sowie internationale Ausstellungsbeteiligungen.
Matthias Boeckl (geboren 1962 in Wien) studierte an der Universität Wien und lehrt Geschichte und Theorie der Architektur an der Universität für angewandte Kunst in Wien. Seit 1999 Chefredakteur der in Wien zweisprachig erscheinenden internationalen Fachzeitschrift "architektur.aktuell". Autor zahlreicher Aufsätze und Bücher sowie Ausstellungskurator zu Themen der modernen und zeitgenössischen Kunst und Architektur.
Roger Riewe (geboren 1959 in Bielefeld) studierte an der RWTH in Aachen und gründete 1987 mit Florian Riegler das Architekturbüro Riegler Riewe in Graz. Zahlreiche Bauten aus den Bereichen Bildung, Kultur, Wohnen und Städtebau. Gastprofessuren u.a. in Aachen, Prag, Amsterdam und Barcelona. Seit 2001 Professor und Vorstand am Institut für Architekturtechnologie der TU Graz.
Ulrich Tragatschnig (geboren 1972 in Klagenfurt) studierte Kunstgeschichte an der Karl-Franzens Universität in Graz. Er war wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter des Spezialforschungsbereichs "Moderne. Wien und Zentraleuropa um 1900". Seit 2007 Assistent am Institut für Stadt- und Baugeschichte der TU Graz und Kunstkritiker für die Wochenzeitung Falter. Publikationen u.a. in "architektur.aktuell" und "Camera Austria".
