Der Umgang mit Farbe ist ein komplexes Thema: von Normen, Moden und Trends beeinflusst, leiten wir unsere Vorstellungen und Konzepte von Farbtheorien, der Intuition und von pers&#246;nlichen Vorlieben ab. Heute &#252;bliche Farbf&#228;cher und Farbbeschreibungssysteme basieren auf rein quantitativen Grundlagen und umfassen weit mehr als 1500 T&#246;ne. Wie entscheiden wir uns also f&#252;r eine bestimmte Farbe? Die Farbchemikerin Katrin Trautwein hat, ausgehend von den Farbpaletten Le Corbusiers, vor &#252;ber zehn Jahren eine Farben-Manufaktur errichtet. Inzwischen verf&#252;gt sie &#252;ber mehr als 900 Farbrezepte, aus denen sie aufgrund ihrer Zusammenarbeit mit Architekten, Gestaltern und Denkmalpflegern eine Auswahl von 128 Farben vorschl&#228;gt, die f&#252;r sich alleine gelungene Ergebnisse bewirken und auch untereinander gut kombinierbar sind. Jede Farbe wird mit einem Farbmuster vorgestellt, au&#223;erdem werden ihre Potenziale sowie ihre Bedeutung in der Anwendung beschrieben. Katrin Trautwein h&#228;lt weltweit Vortr&#228;ge zum Umgang mit Farbe, gibt Seminare, erstellt Gutachten, ber&#228;t Architekten, schult Maler und arbeitet restauratorisch.

Dealing with color is a complex subject: influenced by standards, fashions, and trends, we derive our ideas and concepts from color theories, intuition, and personal preferences. The color swatches and systems for describing color common today are based on purely quantitative principles and include well over 1,500 colors. So how do we choose a particular color? More than ten years ago, the color chemist Katrin Trautwein established a pigment factory, starting out from Le Corbusier&#8217;s color palette. She now has more than 900 recipes for paint from which she has proposed &#8211; based on her work with architects, designers, and historical preservationists &#8211; a selection of 128 colors that produce pleasant results on their own and also combine well. Each color is presented with a sample; their potential uses and significance are also discussed. Katrin Trautwein has lectured throughout the world on how to approach colors, given seminars, given expert opinions, advised architects, taught painters, and worked as a restorer.

Seitdem baute sie ihre Manufaktur weiter aus, stellte weitere Farbrezepturen zusammen (insgesamt &#252;ber 900), entwickelte eine umfassende Wei&#223;palette, besch&#228;ftigte sich mit historisch bedeutsamen Farben, die von der Industrie vernachl&#228;ssigt worden sind (z.B. das Ultramarinblau von Yves Klein oder das Pompeijanischrot von Semper u.a.) und die im heutigen Einsatz sinnvoll sind, und zwar sowohl unter &#228;sthetischen als auch wirtschaftlichen und &#246;kologischen Aspekten.
