London wurde wegen des Verkehrs Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts der Untergang im Pferdemist vorausgesagt. Zeitgenössische Lösungsansätze dieser ersten Umweltprobleme griffen zu kurz. Dann tauchte der Verbrennungsmotor auf und verdrängte die Pferdefuhrwerke. Inzwischen befindet sich die Menschheit in einer weitaus kritischeren Situation: Im 21. Jahrhundert versucht man die quälenden Energie- und Umweltprobleme auf globaler Ebene mit Vorgaben bei Architektur, Verkehr und Industrie zu lindern. Die Autoren zeigen, dass wir heute jedoch auf bereits vorhandene Technologien zurückgreifen könnten, die die Energieprobleme umweltfreundlich lösen.
