Otto Wagner gilt als "Vater der Wiener Moderne" und einer der bedeutendsten internationalen Architekten. Die Publikation zur MAK-Ausstellung nimmt die Wechselwirkungen zwischen Wagner und anderen Protagonisten der frühen Moderne ebenso in den Blick wie Wagners Einfluss auf Zeitgenossen, SchülerInnen und nachfolgende Generationen von ArchitektInnen und DesignerInnen wie Josef Hoffmann, Jože Plečnik, Leopold Bauer, Rudolph M. Schindler, Frank Lloyd Wright, Auguste Perret, Frei Otto, Aldo Rossi und Robert Venturi/Denise Scott Brown. Mit großzügigem und oft unbekanntem Bildmaterial veranschaulicht das Buch den Einfluss Wagners auf die internationale Architektur von der Jahrhundertwende bis zur Gegenwart und damit ein beziehungsreiches Geflecht zwischen Moderne und Postmoderne.
